German army WWII. Tamiya 1/35 20mm Flakvierling 38, Tamiya's Sd.Kfz. 223 Leichter panzerspahwagen (Fu).

Four guns for the price of one. 20mm Flakvierling 38. A box of barrels.

The German 20mm Flakvierling 38, also known as the Quad 20mm Flak 38, was a widely used anti-aircraft gun during World War II. It was developed by the German manufacturer Rheinmetall-Borsig and saw extensive service with the German military and its allies.

Let's investigate what's in the box.

Four guns for the price of one.

The Flakvierling 38 was a towed, manually operated, quadruple-barreled anti-aircraft gun.
It featured four 20mm barrels mounted in a rectangular arrangement on a central carriage.
The gun had a high rate of fire, capable of shooting up to 180 rounds per minute per barrel.
It had a maximum effective range of approximately 2,200 meters against aircraft targets.

It suggests a Horch for towing... I can do that.

Three more guns? Yup, I'm making them too.

Paint schemes on the back.

and I'm building one... from this point onwards at least.

Putting it all together...

The Flakvierling 38 was highly effective against low-flying aircraft, such as strafing fighter planes or dive bombers.
We all remember 633 squadron...

The Flakvierling 38 played a significant role in Germany's air defense strategy during World War II.
It provided a mobile and effective anti-aircraft capability, deterring enemy aircraft and protecting vital targets. Its high rate of fire and quadruple-barreled configuration increased the chances of hitting the target. However, against high-altitude bombers, it had limited success due to its relatively short range and small caliber.

Tamiya Sd.Kfz.223 Leichter PanzerspƤhwagen(Fu) Including photo-etched parts.

Hi folks. Todays project is a blast from my past. I remember making ths a couple of times in the eighties. That's the decade not my age...

Here is one from the black and white times.

This is an armored radio version of Sd.Kfz222 four-wheeled armored car. With 2 figures (one is half-bodied) in tropical uniforms. It is a 2003 re-issue of an original 1975 tooling.

A goodly amoount of plastic for the money and an interesting subject. Great one for adding to larger dioramas or as the main subject of its own.

Here are the etched pasts along with the decals.

Let's have a look at the plastic.

Finders keepers...

 Here's one I made earlier.

The Leichter PanzerspƤhwagen (German: "light armoured reconnaissance vehicle") was a series of light four-wheel drive armoured cars produced by Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1944... and I've made a model of one.

Time for some paint. I'm going with the dark yellow scheme. There are plenty of others for you if you prefer.

Front and sides were made of 14.5 mm (0.6 in) 'rolled homogeneous armour' (RHA) a type of vehicle armour made of a single steel composition hot-rolled to improve its material characteristics, as opposed to layered or cemented armour. Its first common application was in tanks.  Thinner 5 mm (0.2 in) plates protected the top, rear, and bottom. Cast vision ports were cut into the armour. The open-topped turret was fitted with wire mesh anti-grenade screens. Beginning in 1939, the front armour was increased to 14.5 mm (0.6 in

I think they overdid the chipping...

Say cheese...
